Has anyone here used VNC, and what experiences have you had with it?

If you're talking about VNC the software which works somewhat like PC Anywhere but is free, well yes I have used it.

I use it for my broadcast boxes to which I do not have monitors or mice attached to. They just sit and run in a corner.

I use VNC to connect to them remotely and restart them etc.

Works pretty sweet. Gives me a desktop via the broswer and is password protected so not just anyone can access it.

If  you assign a valid outside IP you can even remotely admin the box from where ever. I haven't run into any problems using it.

If this isn't what you were talking about then well um uh um just disregard this or blow it away  ;D

That is the one that i am talking about.  Do you think that it is better than PC Anywere?  Also, do you know how secure it is?

VNC for a freebie is great, but it does pale in comparision to PC Anywhere.

In my personal opinion PC Anywhere rules in all aspects of control and security.

For a freebie that works, VNC will do the job, if you're looking for reliability, security and functionality, PC Anywhere is the way to go.

I use the VNC for internal use only, wouldn't trust having my front door wide open for anyone to just walk in. Oh, be back later someone's at the door now  ;D

You can use PC Anywhere with just about any protocol you can think of. TCP/IP being the most popular these days.

If you run it on a box with an outside IP address you can connect via the Internet no problem. Depending on your connection speed depends on how well your experience goes.

I use it with my cable, DSL and I have two puters I dial into. They all work just fine and it saves me having to drive to all the different locations. Nothing like the power from your desk  :o
