EFMA touts new 802.3ah standard. The Ethernet in the First Mile Alliance (EFMA) kicks sand in the face of your 1.5Mbps connection right in front of your girlfriend. The alliance is working on a new Ethernet standard which, they claim, will offer speeds of up to 10Mbps to subscribers far more cheaply than traditional DSL. The standard could move forward quickly and be approved by 2003, since it's only a slight variation of standard ethernet.

I wanna get that!

Yeah, that is a good idea. Why mess around with ultra high frequencies on telephone lines that are still stuck with RJ-11 jacks when you can do the same except with existing technology on RJ-45?!?

You talking about 10Mbps or 10MBps?

Cause 10Mbps = 1.3MBps

It is in fact 10Mbps or 1.25MBps, but it works the same for DSL/Cable so 1-3Mbps connections actually run at 250-750KBps.

Either way, 100BaseTX won't take too long to come out after that, unless they try to reel in customers to 10BaseT for a while to greedily make a few pennies more when 100BaseTX comes out. Then comes 1000BaseTX (the current limit), and by that time, all servers will likely be on much faster connections, and we downloadin @ 125MBps!!!

yeah you wish. with so many people signed up, it will drop. You might get in the end just a few MBps

Not if you get an ISP that uses switches instead of regular hubs!  ;D

But if everyone uses internet that fast, it'll actually be faster than we can go through it! You can install SuSE or RedHat Linux right off the servers instead of downloading and wasting 2 CD's!!!
