blue screen error in xp help please
 

I have a PIII with 256ram, on which i run XP pro.  After two years of crash free usage, i started getting the following blue screen error immediately after i boot.

i tried to shift(got vexed with this screen so much) to win2k but it too started giving similar (not same) error message. So i got into win98. No such messages.  But my other partition still has xp and i want to use it(i am addicted to xp).

By the way, i use a cable conncetion for internet.

Please help  (I am no geek) and fast pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.Thanks for ur time.

this is what some people call the "blue screen of death". i got it occansionally while overclocking. as a matter of fact by sending my ram to high. go into your bios and look for "failsafe defaults" or something similar, if you cant find it, try tuning everything you can in bios down to optimal or less, but be careful not to tuch any clock settings or any numbers in general. either way, its sounds like a bios problem. when is the last time you cleaned out the inside of your case?maybe its just dirty.

you might also find SiSoft sandra and run the tune up wizard - sometimes it finds the problem.

if all else fails, buy more/new ram - XP eats a ton anyway.

BSOD doesnt exist in win xp. At least its not physically


any way 2 years you tend to get a lot of clutter on a drive and also maybe one of your computer parts broke....

But the TCPIP.sys message tells me its something to do with your internet.

Have you installed any drivers,updates, or interesting programs recently?

it looks like you have errors on the same machine w/ 98 and xp running. that indicates hardware problem not software. the usual memtest/prime95 etc are called for to try to pinpoint the point of failure.

bsod does exist.. I know it well.. *well not lately* try updating all drivers or just reinstall XP altogether

thnx guys, but i did clean my cpu, checked my ram modules, replaced them, reinstalled xp twice(clean installations), checked bios....still i get the bsod. Helllllllllllp!!!

what about the BIOS reset jumper? anyone think that'll work....?

well if you didn't change anything in the bios and you don't have some crazy bios virus then i dunno what it'd do... but sure go for it..

u said u did a fresh install?
did you get the problem right after u'r fresh install without u adding any other programs/drivers if so then assuming you didnt alter anything in your bios then your problem is hardware related check your mobo esp to make sure there is no over saturated Capacitors or any other component being burnt.
if however it happens after you've install other software/drivers then it'll surely either be a problem with the drivers for ur communication device(s) and any communication software you may have installed

a precise diagnosis cant be given as the level of detail u supplied is lacking
