DOD Linux

Anyone who has installed linux knows what a pain it is to get drivers...especially the ethernet drivers so that you can download...MORE drivers.

A friend of mine is developing a automatic driver downloader/installer.

Quite nifty

Its still an alpha......but keep your eyes on it....

thats awesome if he can pull it off...

the beta is done or alpha i dont remember

when he gets donors he can get USB and PCI scanning done

auzy 06-10-2004 09:07 PM

it works

Hi, I'm his friend :)

Its an alpha, but It does work completely at least for PCMCIA/PCI at the moment (probably beta would have been a better way to describe it) .. But the only people who have uploaded drivers to the database has been me so far (the DB only have my atheros wireless card)..

So its usable, but no one has been adding drivers to the database :(

I'm working on a script to make driver submission easier though, even though its already not that hard...

And I guess when I get the X-server based things, that will suck in a few other ppl into using it

You might consider getting copyrights on the software before it gets ripped off (if you haven't done so already). If this thing gets launched completely, I'd love to by stock in this!

hell yeah me too.

Its GPL

its GPL, so its not exactly company based (its fully copyrighted though).. just I guess the speed at which it is improved is directly proportional to donations, because I would actually like to do this mostly as full time (getting a massive DB of drivers working) and updating it beyond commercial standards.

within a month though, I expect it to be good enough for distributions to include..
