Default Reading a CD ROM on an Apple Mac

I'm not sure whether this should be under OS's or Hardware but here goes....

I'm trying to transfer a large file (i.e. too big to fit on a floppy) from my PC onto a Mac (running OS 9) which I borrowed from a friend. I thought (in fact I was told) that making a CD ROM using the Joliet file system would be compatible for both.

Using Nero Burning ROM s/ware I've burnt numerous disks - all Joliet but with different combinations (e.g. ISO level 1 & 2 / Format Mode 1 & Mode 2 / ISO character set / ASCII character set etc.) but none of the disks are recognisable by the Mac.

Does anyone know what settings might be needed for the Mac to recognise the CD ROM? I'm assuming for the moment that this isn't a "standards" issue (CD +R versus CD -R) but that it's simply down to settings. Would appreciate any wisdom about this.
