The 1X, 4X, 8X and 16X speeds are in comparison to AGP 1X. Basically, when we all switch over to PCI-E 16X, we know what to do with the AGP 2.0 and 3.0 (4X and 8X) slots... (1 and 2 GBPS).... HVD and RAIDed HVD's.
