I use mainly Outlook Express it's been the most dependable, but when I just want to read headers first and delete anything like SPAM prior to downloading my mail I use Ultra Funk Popcorn
Yes that is an actual and functional mail client.
I haven't read a news thread in years so do not have a pref. for news. I would however more than likely use OE as it works equally as well for news.
