He sees Novell outpacing Red Hat as the preferred Linux distribution

It seems to me that he refers to the established Linux distributors, the ones that have picked their paths, in a manner where they don't yet know what they are up against. He implies that Novell will lead Linux in years to come due to the fact that their development will be in more direct competition to Longhorn.
