Default Laptop Issue

Hey guys

I am writing this as I have no clue what the heck is wrong here. I have a laptop computer that one day just stopped working. Now when I turn on the power the power light comes on but nothing else seems to turn on (most of the time). Now in the odd case it will also turn on but the lcd screen will be all white. And on a very rare occasion it will turn on and work as if nothing is wrong. Now I thought maybe there was a loss connection somewhere so I pulled the whole laptop apart and reconnected everything and nothing. Now also I just remembers in case one where only the power light comes on it seems that no other hardware comes on (no lcd, hdd, or fans) but when the white screen comes on the fan will come on but the hdd does not turn on though. I then thought it might be ram but haven't had a chance to test it out as I am trying to get some ram with out having to purchase some and find out it is not it. Btw this is a toshiba satellite pro 4600 notebook. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
