Default Parts required to connect laptop LCD to portable DVD player

I have read some of the posts on the subject, however, I was wondering what parts would be needed to make this work, if it is possible.

so you're trying to connect the video out on your portable dvd player to the lcd screen of a laptop. 99% of laptop don't have video-in, so this isn't going to work. And if they did, you'd have to turn the laptop on, at which point you might as well play using the dvd player of your laptop (unless you don't have one, like myself.) But, then, at that point, just rip the dvd and compress it and stick with having one device. If (when) you don't have a laptop with video in, you're going to have to do some opening of the laptop and trickery with the actual chips, which will kill your warranty and be a totally non-portable solution.

My point: this is a bad idea and not worth doing under any scenario that I can think of.

I think he's referring to connecting just the screen to a DVD player. I suggest he visit the "use laptop screen on a pc??" thread, which is soon to be our first topic to cross the 100,000 views threshold.
