Im sorry to bother anyone

I need help my compaq v4000 conked out lastnight. it said i was missing NTDLR. It was on the old school computer screen (black and white) i have mangaged to getting my xp restore disc to laod but it the it still wont let me do anything. can anyone give me and idea or a remedy to help me get on my laptop

Those discs are meant to restore XP, but they generally don't touch the OS files, just the user data and program files. If you can get a hold of a regular Windows XP setup disc, or one that contains an i386 folder, then use the instructions outlined here.
