XP - Explorer pauses for 2 minutes at book
Hi everyone,
Sorry to bother you all, but I am having some problems with explorer freezing for about 2 minutes after almost every boot. (The Task bar and notification area have something to do with it).
I've scowered the internet looking for similar posts, to see if anyone else has had this problem, but it appears to be only me.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it might be?

Sounds like maybe there is a rogue process in the background?
Try disabling things in msconfig to see if that fixes it.

Then if it's not caused by ONE rogue process, it might be the fact that throughout time, you have installed many normal programs that all have their process running. you can always look at the 'Commit Charge' in your Task Manager, do some search on that, and look at what the normal Total is.
Or, it may simply be that your computer needs a good Defragment.

Thanks for the information
Hi all, thanks for the information.
When it began doing it;
I wiped and reinstalled once. It was fine for a while and then did it again.
So I wiped and reinstalled. Then installed, 1 program every few day's so that once it broke, I had an idea of the offending program, but that one led me up the garden path.
It just seems to break. Hence the reason, i'm determined to fix it rather than reinstall. Thanks for the information, and once I do get to the bottom of it i'll let you all know, just in case someone else comes across the same thing.

did you reformat after installing all the progs? Sometimes comps just put programs in random places for no reason at all.

That seems to indicate that maybe it's not that there's a single offending program, but just a collection large enough to have an impact. Next time you log in, hold the SHIFT key down, which will prevent programs from loading (or in reality, preloading). If this dramatically reduces the load time, that may be a sign that you'll need to reduce the number of programs you allow to start up, upgrade your hard drive and RAM, or learn to live with the problem.
