Computer Not Turning On

Okay, I have a computer that I have not been able to turn on for over a year now. What seemed to happen was, I was transferring pictures from my digital camera. I left the house, forgetting I was doing this. When I left, I left the camera on and plugged into my computer. When I came back home and went to turn the computer on, my camera was off as the batteries had run out and the computer was off as well. When I tried to turn the computer back on, it wouldn't turn on or do anything. Does anyone know what may have caused this, if I can possibly fix it myself, or about how much it would cost to have someone else fix it. Thanks so much for the advice and help.
