Default What the? My floppy is nuts!

Does anyone know what would be a likely cause of my floppy drive going into seek mode (at seemingly random times)? The floppy has been changed with no effect, it still tries to read for no reason once in a while. I suspect the controller on the motherboard is getting ready to die, but I'm hoping that there's a software reason behind it.

I'm running a Win98SE system if that helps. Any suggestions (other than to upgrade my 98  :P )?

I once had a virus where my drive would think, then the computer's drive next to me would think(I have a network...)  But it is pretty common for computers to do this, at least I've seen it alot with 98.

Acctually, I wouldn't upgrade from 98...  I only know of one person that likes XP, and ME just plain sucks!  2000 is alright, but it(along with XP) isn't compatable with some software and hardware.

But back to your problem, I'd say upgrading or reinstalling your OS would fix the problem, but there may be an easier way...

I love XP.

And while it does have some problems with old software, it has alot less than 2K.

I have had that problem with pretty much every operating system that i have had.  For some odd reason mine always likes to seek the floppy disk when I open IE.  It seems really random, i have  just learned to deal with it.

On a side note, it seems to happen a lot less with windows xp.  Maybe it was a weird bug in windows 98 and 2000.

Maybe it's only a bug with IE. When I type something in my IE address bar Windows access my CDrom. Maybe...Microsoft built some spycode in to report to them what's in everybody's cdrom!

You know what. I hate that! I don't want the OS looking at any drives unless I tell it to.

we don´t want our OS to do anything without asking us, but if it would do, we´d need several hours to boot the machine and our OS would be really lame and shit, even more shit than windows ME, and that means something :-/
