Default Installing XP on SATA HD

I just built a computer with the following:

GA-700N Pro2 motherboard
Maxtor 80 Gig SATA HD

The system boots to bios correctly. However, when I try to install Windows XP it is clear that my HD is not recoginzed by the Windows XP installation program. It says to press F6 and instal SATA and/or RAID drivers. As far as I know, I do NOT have those.

Where can I get the driver necessary to get my system up and running. Note, I will not be using RAID. I only want my single SATA drive recognized at the moment. And, if possible, please explain in depth where I can obtain the necessary driver (any driver that will work for now) and how to get the necessary files onto a floppy that the installation program will recognize.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Chances are you are going to need those SATA drivers. Your motherboard should have come with a floppy disk that contains the SATA drivers. It might be within a white envelope, at least that is how mine came. If, for some reason, you dont have them just go to Giga-byte's website and download the newest sata drivers and copy them to a disk.

I hope that helps!

I have found these drivers located on the install CD. Some of the ASUS nF2 boards do not have a floppy.
It is not a big deal to extract them from the CD and copy them to a floppy disk.
Then you will have the floppy to install from.

yeah, and a lot of manufacturers put a number of drivers on the CD that have nothing to do with your board (i know my ASUS was like this), thus making you figure out which driver you need. Check the name of the SATA chip on your board and something on the driver should indicate which driver is for which chip. g'luck

i have same mobo...and a seagate 80 gig SATA...i found the drivers on the CD...at least i think i found the right ones...i instaled XP once...but i messed some other stuff up with my bios so im starting over...now, whether i have the drivers or not, i get a blue screen that says an error has occured an the OS was shut down to prevet damage. I also get a black screen that says Award Tecnologies or something and it has a box and in the top half of the box it says LIKE
AMD Processor :Athlon(tm) XP

and the comp doest do anything...just sits there with a flashing cursor under the "P"

any ideas on how to get my mobo and sata and XP to get long? (at least i think those are the 3 things having roblems)

oh for the driver for the serial chip, im pretty sure they are in the folder thats like BootDsk or DiskBoot or something...run the menu.exe...select the SiL one and pick the drivers u need...or maybe it just does it automatically (puts the files on the floppy) so have a floppy in (preferably blank)

Hey troubled, I am having the same issue with my 120g Serial ATA drive from Western Digital.

I was successful in loading WinXP for about a week until it crashed. All it would do is start loading windows and then reboot! I tried to reinstall WinXP, but just as it reached the portion to look at the actuall drive it locked up and went to that medium blue screen that says it had to stop in order to protect the computer etc.

I have asked Gigabyte about this along with Silicon Image and I get the run around. Obviously they have issues.
