Default Responsible News Reporting

I don't know about many of you but I have something I need to vent and wonder if I'm alone. I feel that the news media in this day and age has gotten out of hand. The news reports sensationlize and glorify the crimes and perpetuate even more violence. I'm not for censorship, let me get that out of the way. But hour long specials on the "DC sniper"(if there is such I think, I've quit watching the news), only serve to fuel his blood lust. I for one whole-heartedly hold the news media responsible for the child that was shot. Reporters went to such great lengths to brag about school safety I feel the sniper took that as a personnal challenge. If the news media backed off from "Having the latest news" and focused on quality reporting it would benifit all. They are in such a rush to get ratings and have "the scoop" that it has turned into a media circus 24/7. They continue to probe "confidential" sources and have hampered investigations by releasing sensitive information. Another huge bone I have to pick is about military operations but I'll stay off that soap box for now. Without some kind of guidelines I feel the news media will only grow as a menace and cease to serve the purpose it was founded for. There is a large diffrence in reporting facts and relaying information (I thought that was it's intended purpose) and creating a real life cross between a bad drama and a soap opera.
