Default MS Sidewinder Game Pad Pro Help Please

Hello. I'm looking for advice on using the MS Sidewinder Game Pad Pro, software v4.0

I have found that in games that use the 4 directional buttons of the keyboard to control the character, the Pad's 'Directional' & 'Proportional' modes do not send any signal to the computer. In short, I have to manually program the 8 directions of the Pad myself if I want my character to move.

This gets extremely sloppy when trying to program the 4 diagonal directions using recorded macros. The control I end up with is shoddy at best.

Is there any solution to this problem? I am baffled as to why MS would design this product this way. I have tons of games that use the 4 directional keys and this controller is inadequate for all of them.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Also, if you have a recommendation for a better PC controller that solves this problem, I?d love to hear it. Thanks.
