Default Several things about cooling

Hi all

I've noticed, that ppl are becoming totally obsessed about cooling lately, with no reason, for my opinion

Heat is a normal attribute of any electronic device.
Installing 5 fans for a single box is fun, but not more then that ...
Water-cooling system for PC ? Well, you can pave the box with gold too (excuse me my sarcastic laugh).

Basically you need
1 fan for CPU (OK, double fan, or the BIG one).
1 for VGA (if it uses graphics acceleration)
+ it's good to have 1 case fan (in addition to psf, of course)

That's all, that's how it comes with brand name machines.
That's how it's usually assembled

So if you can touch the CPU heat sink, your CPU is just fine. It's always tested to work properly in typical enviroment, and so it does, without additional cooling systems. (I'm talking about PC here, not echelon systems).

OK. It's been proved that special cooling techniques can improve total system efficiency up to 50%, but again on specific machine with very specific cooling system (not to talk about $$$)

I hope you've got my point

Cheers

I would have to agree with Chef. SGI doesn't use so many fans, and with their price tag they wouldn't mind adding a hundred fans if it improved their performance. Only when you get into massive cooling techniques like www.Kryotech.com will you notice it with their thermal acceleration.

OC'ing doesn't gain any noticible increase, even in the popular Athlon 600 to 1000 OC. Clocking utilities still find it pretty close. You will probably spend more on cooling then just getting the better processor.

sounds like logical thinking to me.  thats is my first choice as well and after all the working on the system will i work on cooling it.

you can tell people about the proper ways of cooling and what they need, but they will do what they want. if they want to make their box a fridge let them, nothin too wrong with it.

i am not saying they shouldnt, just saying its become a fad to have the coolest system in the world, and people are not making any difference to their system. thats all. take offense if you want, i couldn't care less, but that's not what i was saying

it's cool to do what you want, overclocking, cooling, low level formating (my favorite), trying new things.
I also like stuff like this, just wanted to make note so typical users wouldn't get wrong ideas reading certain topics. Experimenting on your machine without appropriate skills (I know, I know you have them) can cost a bunch of money ...
