Default Maxtor...

Ugh...has ANYONE had as many problems with Maxtor as I have? I started out with a 30G back around 1999-2000. It lasted about 3 months, then started giving me problems. They asked me to run Maxblast, and sure enough, it gave me some error code. They replaced it. Within another 3 months or so, that drive died too. They replaced it, and guess what, it died. I got yet another 30G, but guess what, it died!

This time they upgraded me to a 40G. It worked for about 6 months, then it quit spinning up! They sent me another, the one I'm currently one. It's lasted for about 1 year, but of course, it's got to die to. Just recently, it spun down, then right back up. About 10 minutes later, it spun down, and DIDN'T spin back up! I cut my comp off then back on, "BOOT DISK FAILURE!" Yeah...after letting it sit for about 5 minutes, it came back to life. I plan to call tommarow and get my 6th drive This time, I plan to just keep it stored away and use my Seagate 80G!

Trust me, I decided that after I got my 2nd died And I hope your not thinking "I" bought all these drives. Noticed how I said "They replaced it" :P

I will admit, Maxtor has a nice replacement program and all. I guess they need it with how crappy their drives are...

i'm a samsung and seagate fanatic. they are usually a bit more expensive, but they run much cooler than maxtor and WD and have better warranties

I've heard Samsung was one of the cheaper brands... I know that's what was in my emachines I had a few years back...

But I totally agree with Seagate. That is what I've switched to and probably will use in my next computer. Either that or Western Digital...

I had issues with a 20gb Maxtor drive. It did the same things. I used to hit the front of my case right where the HDD was and you could hear the drive start spinning again.

That worked every time it froze, but of course that left it dead in a few weeks. They replaced it with another one, but it has long been sent to the land of the backup drive.

My Western Digital Serial ATA drive, (120gb) lasted a week and two days before crapping out, but I think the Motherboard Serial ATA controller had something to do with it.

Its funny how 10 years ago Seagate was the crappy drive that Packard Bell used mainly. Western Digital and Maxtor both have bad records with certain drives.

Fujitsu Rocks!
