Default Baybus controlled by software

What would it take to make a peice of hardware and software that controlled all of the fan in your computer? With options like temperature monitoring, rpm monitoring, and being able to schedule the fans and turn them each on/off via the software.  I have a feeling if someone can you this a lot of people would buy them.

I would be willing to attempt to make something like this, anyone want to help?

most matrix orbital LCDs have some GPO ( general purpose out) which allow you to switch on/off devices via software. and ya can also output temps and fan speeds. the only way to do the project without spending hundreds of dollars or endless hours of excessive soldering

search for computer interface at like google, u can pick up a empty pcb board that fits in a pci slot where u can use the bus, if your not confortable with that u can always build one that run off the printer port, their are 8 io's 4 address and like 4 input i think, u can rig up the 4 address to switch where the 8 io's go giving you 32 lines(in its most bassic form), if you know VB search for, canada ioport, in google and download that ocx, it controls the printer port, make a prog ur set

I disagree. This UltraDM has very limited features, that we can develop far past. What it has is support for 4 fans with speed control using what the call Pulse Width Modulation, and also an LCD display.

That is not what Keefe was reffering to; he was reffering to it being controlled by the software, which in turn would make it completely programmable.

I know RadioShack has a similiar thing to control speed, same exact principle, and it would easily fit on a PCI board. I am looking for it now.

Oh, I wasn't meaning Pulse Width Modulation in a bad way, as it is currently the most effective speed control for fans. RadioShack has a PWM kit which we can bum the design off of and make our own.

To do this, we need to gain extensive knowledge of PCI; ISA is not even on many of the mobo's that modders use. I have found two sites...

wouldn't be controlling the thing via parallel port more easier. something like 4 channels with up and down contatcs that can be controlled via momentary switches or with signals for up and down through the parallel port. this would be possible and not very hard work to program i think
