umm, why boycott apple, and then how is not using firewire boycotting apple? It's not like apple owns firewire, they just implemented it earlier than MS. Sony makes extensive use of firewire. Besides the fact that you can power things over firewire, I've not seen a USB2.0/Firewire drive perform better with USB than with Firewire, that is, even though USB2 has greather theoretical bandwidth, every test i've seen with them shows firewire winning out. what happened to using the best product available?

Either/or not either/and

I know that apple didn't make firewire.. its just widely used by apple. Also, more and more people at my school have becoming interested in the G5.. I don't see a point.. I'd rather buy an FX-51/53 rig and the best 19" lcd money can get me for almost half the price (Fry's has a G5 with the huge "cinema" display for $3500 after rebates). I guess the best way of describing my attitude for macs: I don't HATE macs... I just prefer PC's.

wow from HD's to firewire to macs... my bad

I like mac's more than linux.. and actually noobs.. apple created the ieee1394 [firewire] standard (if my A+ training is serving me correctly) I just don't like that apple has a total dominant monopoly over everything mac.. that's why pos comps cost $3k..

I like Firewire just fine. I hook up my laptop to my desktop with a firewire cable, and I transfer data fast enough. I was able to pull a few seasons of Sienfield off my laptop in a few minutes with it, and you don't have to buy a hub, it's plug and play.
