Default Porn Business Driving DVD Technology

As goes pornography, so goes technology. The concept may seem odd, but history has proven the adult entertainment industry to be one of the key drivers of any new technology in home entertainment. Pornography customers have been some of the first to buy home video machines, DVD players and subscribe to high-speed Internet.

As accurate as Reuters often is, I will have to disagree with them on this. There is no question that the business may increase demand for the new technologies, but as for having a history of being influential, I see no proof. The technologies that are claimed to have been made available due to porn were established and already standardized long before that particular media could have too much of an influence. As for the current DVD technology battle, the battle was already won, in terms of backing and support, by Blu-Ray. The only thing that can save HD-DVD now is its compatability with current media production making it cheaper faster, and thus more popular before Blu-Ray hits the market. That's likely not going to happen with Blu-Ray around the corner. Basically its cost can save it, not porn.
