Default Upgrading too early is a waste of money.

can't see the logic in buying new computer hardware and software every 6 months unless you are what they refer to in marketing as an "Early Adopter" Or you work for a company where you gan get discounted equipment. For regular home use a system can last much longer than in the corporate world.

"As of mid-2005, Intel has abandoned further work on Pentium 4 to focus on cooler running Pentium M derived solutions for the desktop PC and small server market. This essentially means Intel has returned to the Pentium III CPU core and only the system bus of the Pentium 4 will live on."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4

Is there anyone out there that is still using Windows ME? I have been using this operating system for about 2 yrs. now and have had very few problems. I have used XP but i can't find any real reason to upgrade. Yea I know (blah blah blah viruses, worms etc...) Microsoft has extended its support til june 2006. I am also using an older cusom built system that runs just as well. A Dual Slot1 Tyan Server board with 512mb 133Ram, 2 Pentium3 667 coppermines a Geforce2 MX, Soundblaster 5.1 and dual Maxtor 20gb 7200rpm harddrives. My monitor is a 17in. CRT.
I had the drives in RAID and could dual boot into Linux which I use occasionally.
I am considering building a new system since i've stretched the limits of this machine and gotten just about every penny out of it. I was considering a AMD system consisting of:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - OEM

ASUS A8V-E Deluxe Socket 939 VIA K8T890 ATX AMD Motherboard
And a Geforce 6600 deluxe
This new system should be compatable with Windows "Longhorn" and should last me just as long as my last...which I will continue to use. I have obtained a copy of Windows Professional x64 edition free from Microsoft (Yes Free) Its an evaluation copy but so what. Id rather try it before buying it.

AMD has surpassed Intel as far as i'm concerned. I have used nothing but Intel processors since the days of the original PentiumMMX but Intel has had to bactrack to thier original Pentium3 core for thier "new" processors.
So much for progress.

p.s. - i have a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from www.misericordia.edu
"Why should I care?"
