AMD Unveils Energy Efficient Desktop Processor Roadmap
"SAN JOSE, Calif. -- May 16, 2006 --Leveraging its leadership in performance-per-watt computing, AMD (NYSE: AMD) today unveiled a top-to-bottom energy efficient AMD desktop processor roadmap at the In-Stat Spring Processor Forum. Consumers and businesses alike are requesting smaller, more elegant PCs that aesthetically complement home and office environments, yet deliver the same performance as larger systems. Energy efficient AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core, AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Sempron™ processors, based on the upcoming socket AM2, are designed to provide for new freedoms in PC form factor design by offering significant performance-per-watt advantages over standard processors for commercial and consumer markets. Energy–efficient computing is a crucial step for the computing industry as large businesses seek to reduce operating costs."

Well at least they're copying each other for a good cause
Actually, I never heard of this being in development; it won't make me jump on it and shell out the cash for it, but it is nice to know that they actually thought about energy efficient processors

Yes, it's important. Hopefully they cut down the heat along the way (they kind of do go hand-in-hand.

The heat will undoubtly much harder to fix...unless you want an older system that is.
The only (or perhaps main) way to make something faster (such as CPU and videocards) is to make the board go faster...creates more friction...causes more heat.
I think they'll simply want us to invest in good cooling systems instead :/

Actually they are all copying VIA Technologies, though their product didn't have the speed to impact the market.

There's an option for most vehicles that increases brake horsepower, increases mileage, increases driver control, lasts longer than the alternative, and even reduces the price of the vehicle. Despite all this, most people in this country choose the alternative, an automatic transmission.

Good point. I remember that line or processors... They also didn't quite have the performance.
