Default HELP HELP!! No juice!!

Ok...this may sound silly, but this is the first computer I have ever built. I got a mother board (PC Chips m922lr), standard case, power suppy (ATX 300w), p4 1.6 GHZ, 1GB DDR 3200, floppy, cd drive, 40GB ide 7200 rpm drive, and GeForce4 128mb. I put it all together following the instructions, (have checked, checked, and re-checked) to the letter, but when I turn it on nothing happens...at all...zip, zilch, zero. I dont get so much as a click, beep, or whirl. I know I dont have a large amount of experience, but it did not seem like rocket science to get everthing plugged in and the jumpers set correctly. I guess I was wrong and over shot my abilities.

IN NEED OF ADVICE IN THE WORST WAY!!!

Sara

First off, I doubt that you overshot your abilities as the basic premise on building a computer is plug stuff where ever it will fit (well at least in my opinion).

Pentium 4's a lot of power supplies and so likely your 300 watt supply is just not enough.

If that's not it, try using another motherboard as PC Chips is not that great of a manufacturer and bad motherboards often are the cause of computer problems. Also, I can't find your specific model of motherboard on their site for P4 motherboards.

Also, if you would like I can give you instructions step by step in case the instructions you are using have an error in them somewhere.

Thanks for the quick reply! I felt like it was pretty easy to build a box, what with all the goof proof plugs, but yet here I am. I guess my mother board is the M922LU on the PC Chips site. It seems to me that it is not getting any power since nothing at all lights or happens. Could this be under powered or do I just not have the on/off switch wires plugged in correctly? How can I test to see if the power supply is working correctly??

Thanks-

Sara

Default a good test

A good way to test your core components is to use only your core components.

Basically take everything off and just plug in your power supply to your motherboard, insert your RAM (try just one stick), plug in your video card, put in your processor, and have your video card connected to your monitor. Make sure everything is plugged in firmly into their slots/sockets. Since you have many new components, they are probably very stiff and will be hard to put in completely. Make sure your jumpers are correctly set and connect all the wire from your case. Plug in your power supply to the wall and power it up.

Since your case may have a bad power button, I would suggest not connecting the power button plug that goes from your case to your motherboard. Instead use a flat-blade screwdriver to connect the two wires that it would be plugged into. That should start it up.

All of the above and check that the power supply is set to the correct voltage, 120 or 240 depending where ya are. Check and see if it has a fuse, still suspect it toss it into another computer. If it can't power the other computer, toss it and replace.

Default M922LU

Did you ever find a solution to your problem with this board. I recently bought one to build for my nephew and I have the same problem. Plug everything in and zilch! No power, lights, fan spin, nothing. Sure wish I had researched a little more before buying this, I would have never bought this board.

take the board out of the case and put it on an anti-static bag, hook it up there and try it again...

i find that in my excited haste to build a new machine, i will connect the power switch wrong. check your board's manual and make sure you have that plugged in right.

if that, or any other advice you get on this forum doesnt work, i have one word for ya: RMA. well, actually its an acronym for 3 words, but you get my point.

later

Don't do what I did 2 mobo's ago... plug something in so wrong that it melts the power button thing... smoke coming out and all.. had to get a new front bezel.. and it didn't fit so I cut it and wedged it in there.. and now even that is wearing out... so.. yea.. do it right the first time...

sorry to bump a dead thread but this shows on google's first page of search results for this motherboard, and i'd like to help document this board...

I'm working on the m922lu (PCChips). I've set all jumpers (ABCD + 2.5v), minus the 133Mhz one, since the screen won't even come on with it on...

This computer crashes while loading XP. It will load fine when the ABCD are switched back to the SDRAM settings, or if I disable L2 cache (which makes the computer run like a 486).

I examined the capacitors closely on the motherboard, and it appears that the medium sized capacators surounding the processor are "bubbled up". From what I recall, this is a common sign of faulty capacitors.

So, for the record, I have tried and failed as well with this motherboard. Perhaps bad capacators is just another of the multiple problems with this poorly made board.

Note: I've tried 4 brands of PC2700 RAM, 2 Power Supplies, checked system temperature, re-seated the CPU, removed all attached, etc, and I can only get it working with the SDRAM.

Again, sorry for the post, but this is the only board that still works after all these years. Cheers all.
