Computer Speakers are dying

I have the Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Theater 5.1 DTT2200 speakers. I was playing a game and my speakers just died. I have had these speakers for about 1 and a half years and this is the first time this has happened. Also the light on my Master Volume Control died too.
Anybody have any idea why this happens?

sounds to me like the p/s blew. (from the light also going off) I would bet a fuse went or sth else like that.

Yeah, Keefe is right. It has to be power related, because if a cone goes out on the speaker, the magnets still move, it just rips the cone more and more and you get funny sound. Try another power converter and line and see what happens.

I think i found the problem. I plugged my speakers into another outlet and they work. The light is on. Before it was in a power surge thing. The power strip that it was in had my computer, monitor, printer, lamp, and steering wheel in it. I started having this problem after i pluged the steering wheel in.

Were my speakers dying because there wasnt enought power going to it?
Or is it something else.

Yes, they didn't have enough power if that fixed it. You're outlet probably can't take that much load, so I would try spreading all your stuff out to prevent problems in the future. Even if you do not add anything, keeping your outlet almost maxxed out can prevent your computer from staying on during a spike which will cause damage to it.

if the outlet was too weak, the main fuse would have blown and everything would have gone dark. seems to me that ya have bad contact either in the power outlet or somewhere on the powers way through ya boxes. but sounds more like the power outlet.
