Default Gaming Mousepads

I'm almost set on a ratpadz GS. It's only $14.99 shipped at newegg.com - Does anyone know of a better pad that doesn't cost too much more?

this is gonna sound very odd but I don't use a mousepad at all.
What I use is called 'Teflon Baking Sheet'.

It's basically a thin sheet of cloth coated with teflon (on both sides) that is intended for use in ovens and microwaves. They stop food stick to traditional metal baking tins. (this shows how tough these things are).

The sheet itself is almost paper thin and if you have a smooth desk you can cellotape it on the 4 corners so it doesn't move about. You don't catch your wrist on the side of it.
It's also pretty large and could probably make 2 mouse matts.

What I have done with mine is cropped off the corners and superglued then to my Msoft explorer v3's feet for telfon on telfon frictionless glide.
The sheet is great for optical mice - not sure about balled mice as there might not be enough traction for the rubber ball.

The sheet is £2.99 over here in the UK and I got mine from a supermarket called Sainsburys.

Here's a link to some1 who has tried it:

Other than that I can reccomend the Func pad - I used one before the Teflon sheet and it has a rough n smooth side for both types of mouse.
The Func is expensive tho' - weighing in at £25+ plus in the UK.

fUnc sUrface is highly recomended. I have tried one at my friends house and he has a Logitech mx500 mouse and works flawlessly even though it is optical. Also I hear from reviews that the ratpadz or however you spell it isn't that responsive for optical mice.

Only $20 on newegg and retail.

uhh stinky read what i said kthx.. i said the one you talked about was ugly.. the rat looks fine.. pro - i used to think that, then the things on the bottom of my mouse came off.... also, they're alot smoother, and even normal mouse pads are supposedly a lot rougher, which makes sense. If you play alot of fps's - it's worth it. ( i guess, i've never used a gaming pad)

well dont get anal for writing our opinions...I'm just saying I have heard from friends and online reviews that the ratpad wears out too easily, and the func is the way to go between the two from my experience with it... so "kthx"

I don't use any thing for a mouse pad. That teflon thing sounds like a good idea, but the desk I use has a cheap veneer top that actually has very good characteristics for optical mice. It outperforms many gaming surfaces I've come across. Kind of weird...
