I spotted a very intresting article on The Adrenaline Vault that deals with frame rates in both console and computer gaming. It's a very massive piece dealing with multiple subjects, with a fair bit of technical background thrown in.
On the other hand, I'm a firm believer in "perspective." As a reviewer of games on the PC platform, and as someone who's recently purchased his first console since the early 1990s, I've noticed a disturbing trend in the reviews of console software - a trend that would likely have been invisible to me had I been following the platform throughout those intervening years. I'm speaking of the recent fashion of reviewers speaking authoritatively about the exact frame rates exhibited by releases without anything to substantiate their claims.
