Default P4P800 Problem =(

I am building my girlfriend's computer and much to my dismay, when I plug in the CD burner or hard drive into the IDE slots, they just don't work. Whenever it's plugged in, the CD drive always has the red light on, that light that comes on when it's burning. Neither ever detect in BIOS. I have changed the jumper settings around a billion times and I currently have the hard drive in the primary IDE slot and the CD drive in the secondary, both jumpers are set to single. I have switched hard drives and CD-ROM drives from my computer and they do not work either. I haven't the slightest idea what could be wrong =\

SPECS:
Asus P4P800 Mobo
P4 2.60c gHz
WD HDD
GeiL 512MB PC3200 RAM
Generic piece of crap CD Drive

Try a diffrent cable, make sure it has the keys on the plugs so you don't get it inverted. If that doesn't work it sounds like the ide controller is bad.

YO! WD drives DO NOT WORK WITH A JUMPER WHEN THEY'RE THE ONLY DRIVE ON THE CHAIN! So take the jumper off and the HD should work, make sure you also have em plugged into the right IDE port.. Not sure if the nondeluxe has any raid but mine has 4 diff ide slots on the mobo. Then you aught to disable everything you don't use in the bios.
