Default Windows 98 help PLEASE

I know it blows but its all I got

I keep getting ilegal errors in explorer, and I don't know how to do jack w/o it. I can do some slight MS-DOS(very limited) but I like my point and clicked-ness. Should I type up the error or is it hopeless if explorer has errors and do I need to wipe my comp? If so... CRAP! Time for a new computer then mates. Cuz I don't have the Windows 98 cd... DOUBLE CRAP! Arrg

D*** YOU TO HELL BILL GATES WITH YOUR S***** WINDOWS 98!!

dude calm yourself.. windows 98 was one of the better OSs to come out of M$, be happy its not Malfunction Edition {Windows Me} anyway, try doing the basics: undo-ing the last things you changed, formatting, deleting stuff you dont need, scandisk, update your drivers, check microsoft knowledge base, call tech support in India, and of course, if all else fails, reinstall!

oh yeah, easy on the language, you read the rules?

Good Luck bro!

Install and run ad-aware, spybot search & destroy, and spyware blaster. If you have virus protection, update it and run a complete scan. If you don't have protection, get it.

Spybot is what KILLED it.

It messed up a registry in explorer. When I first rebooted the comp after running spybot, first spybot ran and had an illegal error, then explorer ran and had an illegal error.

Is there ANY way to use win 98 w/o explorer? I know in XP you can have explorer closed and run progs thru the task manager, but in 98 all explorer can do is kill stuff.

And im NOT upgrading to XP. It's like 500$, and it would make my comp run WAY slow(my bro tried it on his old comp, which is better than my current comp, and it made it run about half as fast).

I can't get a new comp, I don't have the cash, and my parents won't let me get a job. They actually don't even want me fixing MY comp, but I know that the second theirs glitches, they'll come running straight to me for help. Thats what makes me the most mad, they lock me out of their comp then expect me to fix it. >_<

wow.. that sucks, dude. xp isn't $500, it is more like $200... which in my opinion is still too expensive, but what can you expect from microsoft. do you have any system restore tools? i remember when i first tried spybot, it caused a lot of problems on my system too... i stuck with adaware. if and when you run an adaware scan, make sure you run a full system scan at least the first time.

just borrow a friend's XP and install it... as long as they haven't in the last 3 months it doesn't know the diff.. and if you're worried about it slowing down your comp... it's time for a new one anyway
