Default Echostar-Directv merger destoryed

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/...101002X,00.asp

I, for one, wanted the merger. It would have helped people that could not get highspeed internet access to get it. It would have helped to keep the subscription prices low, although they are still lower than most cable companies. The merger gave echostar more muscle in negotiations w/ network providers. It could have added more channels to all of us.

yes merges can mean good things but also can mean bad things
less competitions = higher price + monopoly

Have u seen the prices for cable and satellite. Satellite is cheaper than cable. Even when there is two, both are still cheaper than cable. Now if they were combined they could compete with their main competitors Cable.

some might work on digital cable, but I should warn you that cable companies at times test each cable box to see if it is their kind and otehr things. If it is not it will be sent a message and it will make the descrambler useless.

cable descramblers are client sided and cannot be detected on the cable node site

the cable companies want to make sure that you are using their boxes and that they are not tampered with. So what they do is send a message to ur box asking a few questions and the box sends back the answers to the company. If the box is not theirs or it is tampered with they send a destory command. That command fries your box, making it useless. Directtv did it and fried the illegal smart cards. I have heard of cable companies do that too.
Of course if u don't want them to come in, that is your right.
