Default Ahh, my new stuffed is screwed!

Ok. It posts fine.

I load video drivers, and if the video mode is set to be over 16 colors when windows next loads, windows blackscreens on video init. Here's the other kicker, when it does this, it's like it freezes. Power button won't work, unless I do the "hold in for 10 seconds routine". I know the drivers are loaded correctly. When I first switched the stuff out, I left the OS on the drive, and it did the same thing.

I've tried to load safe settings in bios
I've set vio to +10%
Tried differnet driver versions (6.50's and 11.01's)

Maybe somebody here can come up with a workable solution.

Specs

Athlon 1.13
IWill kk266Plus
Window98SE
Sparkle 300W PSU
Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+ (I know it's not a heat issue, sucker idles at 28C)
Aureal vortex sound
Leadtek GeForce 2 Pro 32M

Just checking but was you sure to load your chipset drivers for your mobo first.  I got 'em out of order on the first rig I built and it hosed the hole shebang.  IF it's a VIA chipsetit has a LOT to do with your graphics.  Good Luck.

You may want to start again and hit your chipset drivers first.  It completely hosed my computer till I did them in order.  I know it's a pain but how much do you have to lose right now??

It sounds like a IRQ conflict to me.

Ok. I got win2k installed. and it boots fine...but if anything tries to access 3d hardware, it locks up (I mean anything, like that cheapass 3d screensaver that comes with 2k)

This could be because their 3 devices sharing the irq with my video card, and I don't have pci steering enabled (I have acpi)

I then disable acpi, which enabled pci steering, and the system boots to a black screen

help?
