Default need help with .cfg

I know this might not be the right place to ask but I didn't know were to look.I have some files sent to me (pictures) that are on a .cfg extention. Does anybody know how I can open those files (with what program maybe) or how i can turn them to .jpg or .bmp files? Any help will be greatly apreciated.

I am pretty sure that .cfg images are mainly used in Linux. I am also pretty sure that GIMP will be able to recognize this format.
