Default Second Gen SATA improves speed by 2X!

Word is that the second Gen of SATA devices is near and speed increases could be doubled from existing devices. The question is: Is this a paper speed increase or a real world performance increase? Only time will tell. You can be sure that when released, Techwarelabs will be there to bring you the firey facts of speed, or the Cold Hard facts of slow access.

unless there is some dramatic change in the construction of the motor/plate/head parts of harddrives, this is just theoretical improvement. As it is, harddrives can't max the 150MBs provided by SATA, 300MBs per device will surely not be saturated. OTOH, i would like to see a multilaser DVD burner/reader capable of more than 16x speeds (esp with blue laser stuff), even if RPM of the discs are the same. That would be an extremely productive use of the bandwidth. Nevertheless, you still have the harddrive bottleneck.
