Ntdlr, yet another post. This time different. Any heroes???
I was running windows xp, until it just wouldn't boot one day...
NTDLR missing
CTRL ALT DEL to restart.
Just like other people's problems....but....
I freaked took the HD out of my computer, after thinking I had lost everything. Put it in my roomies comp, did DSKCHK /f, great copied over all my files, so saved everything.
Then I formatted it figured that a fresh install of XP would do me good anyways.
Plugged her back in (30 gig, formerly my C: ), and have a slave 40gig in there too. Now in BIOS, it won't recognize the drive (30 gig). Does in my buddies comp when it's set to Slave, but not in my own when it's master.
So the problem is...Can't get XP CD to boot from my CDROM. All I get to is the NTLDR missing restart screen. Says CD ROM boot not found...says floppy boot not found. I've tried boot disks, and to load the windows cd, both 98 and XP, still nothing.
I hope someone can tell me what's up. Could it be because my HD is toast?????
I would love some help on this...thanks to anyone!!!

if it's a western digital drive and it's the only drive on the same ide cable, make sure there is NO Jumper...

Sounds like the Pri Master Controller is toast.

Nope and nope. Thanks though... let's keep em coming.
-Two Maxtor drives.
-I tried an old 2 gig (also maxtor) I had, and it worked to get me to a C: prompt in DOS, and that 2 gig had no OS on it when I set it as a master! So it would appear that Pri Master Controller is ok. BIOS recognized it (the 2 gig) as a master so I would assume everything is ok.
Personally I am thinking the drive is messed, although I am no expert, that is why I am asking. And the only reason I doubt myself is because the drive works as a slave on my buddies computer.
SO, like I said, any heroes?
Thanks!

Question:
If I bought a new HD, theoretically, I should just be able to plug it in, set it as master, and then go, is this correct?
