Zyx,
I say those temps are way in the high range. It's not just a matter of what temp will cause absolute failure--you need to be aware that high temps in that range are stressing your components.
I have a athlon XP 2100 with a Radeon 8500 with 128Meg of memory. It's in the same league as your Gforce in that it has it's own onboard fan. Anyway I'm looking at CPU temps in the 49° to 52° range and core temps in the 25° ot 30° range--- and that's about as high as I'm comfortable with.
Edited to add:
Make that a Radeon 8500 with 64 Meg.
My CPU fan is nothing extraordinary and spins in at 5400 rmp.
I'd be concerned that your CPU fan running at 6100 isn't doing a better job. Generally only the best extra heavy duty CPU fans run at that speed. I wouldn't expect to see your XP 2000 reach above 40° with that kind of fan.
What to do?
What are you using to get your readings? Are you sure it's accurate?
Did you get a good connection between your heatsink and your CPU with a good thermal compound?
Are you getting enough air flow through your case? You should have a minimum of 2 case fans NOT counting the power supply fan--And I've seen as many as 4 used.
Also,
With those tiny fans used to cool the CPU, MO core, and graphics cards--when the blades build up with dust it cuts their airflow down a lot. Get a "dust remover" air spray and clean them periodically --I use Qtips to clean my fan blades every few months.
