use laptop screen on a pc??

I found a software utility Maxivista which allows you to use a laptop as an additional display of your main work horse.

Come on, buy any laptop that has a DVI interface and you should be able to rewire it. I just sent a request to Hitachi about my LCD screen.

I have an old Hitachi LMG9400XUCC LCD screen. It has a 40 pin connector and a 3 pin connector. I assume the 3-pin is for some sort of power supply. The 40 pin is obviously data.

The 40 pin cable has 9 wires missing from it, which instantly cuts down the number of wires to 31. Imagine how many of those must be grounds and power, and you are left with few wires.

DVI only has 1 ground and 1 power. Should not be that hard to rewire a plug. Don't need any VGA to DVI connector, just buy a DVI extension cable and slice the wires or something. I am going to after I get a reply from the manufacturer.

I am going to work on this to connect a desktop to a lcd if it work i will surely tell you

I have a compaq persario that has the lcd connector on the back of the case. I know this is built onto the main board, Would this help into rigging up a laptop lcd display?

That's for a second display or to use an external display instead, I believe.

Well I am NEW so dont hammer me like BoneBox. > But IS there a Step-by-step instruction guide to ataining this goal??? I admit ihavent read ALL of the posts in this topic. I also want to get this done. For anumber of reasons. MP3 box, kitchen computer flip down screen. DVD plaver in car,etc...

I havent seen any real websites that offer this. Also we are IN 2004 now. doesnt this seem like an easy project nowadays, with technology is now?

yeah, i'd still like to do this one day, but for now i've all but forgotten this idea. i dont know enough about electronics and stuff to figure this out on my own.

i broke my laptop's LCD last month
i might take it apart and start experimenting with it
maybe ill post some pics if i do decide to start taking it apart

It probably is considering all the LCD and conversion equipment going with because of the amount of flat panel displays that are on the market now, however this thread was created before they became so common (2 years old). As for a guide, it would depend on what display you are trying to connect to, but you would basically just need to connect it to a controller and ADC for most of the different options.

Greatest use of the screen I have ever seen.
You use a VGA interface too. It is really easy to do, someone stopped by the bit-tech forums and told about it. Unlike some people we know this guy really does know how to do it, and he has pics to back it up. He requested that you visit his site and just link to the guide there. It is awesome and I am going to do it in a month or two after I finish up some of my current mods.
