My mouse pad is made up of clear plexi with a black surface applied to it. It also has 12 LEDs (4 sets of 3, red, blue, green) that at the push of a button, I can change the glow of the plexi to 7 solid colors and an additional setting that will rotate all seven colors.

yeah take lots of pics and then turn it into animated gif!!
hehe

vee_ess, have u looked into this yet?
i think as long as whatever the transparent material is thin, it should track fine

how about laminate?
hmm
laminate a picture then spray some particle spray onto the laminate if it doesnt screw up the plastic

*shrugs*

it has laser (class 2)
not LED
all optical mouse have LEDs

laser doesnt really help improve tracking compatibility with surfaces
it just is more accurate

IMO, MX700 is still one heck of a mouse
the only reason i would want to get MX1000 is if i do a little bit more photoshop than i do now and also if i really need that battery level gauge

dude.. i'm talking about the bettery level indicators! not the tracking thing...

and yes its accuracy lends to being able to recognized more surfaces.
