excuse me....

Samsung has some fast drives when the specs are equal
they are fast and quiet

but for the best reliability and warranty, go for Seagate
5 years warranty
dont go for Maxtor

seagate ^^^, hitachi is also good. Samsung i think isn't too bad. I'd probably take all those drives, on a reliability basis over WD or Maxtor. (Samsung I'd do some research on, but they tend to make good stuff). If you wait on places like bensbargains.net you can often find something like 160GB seagates for $50-$60. Worth the wait, if you're not in a rush. OTOH, I wouldn't use a drive that big for my OS (or I would partition it.).

edit: btw, I have that samsung drive right now after a couple of year's of use, and it seems to be dying on me (had since june 02), so maybe I should take that back.

hitachi = IBM = deathstar = GTFO... what stinky did with that drive (breaking it and sending it back RMA) is mail fraud.. I did that with my 9500 but it was accidental so it's not quite as bad...

in retards to the deathstar.. one died at work and I swear I want to hit it with a baseball bat.. was a pain in the butt...

thanks for the heads up. the company i used to work for used quite a few maxtors with great success, so i dont feel too uncomfortable using them. i installed many of those maxtors, so, if mine breaks it will be payback a guess!

hitachi does not = IBM
hitachi only carries the 180 and up models

the unreliable deathstars were the GXP75 and the GXP60
which i have one and is just sitting in my comp unplugged...
sigh

i never broke my ibm.. it broke by itself. I am returning my samsung though due to "HD exploration". i was bored. And dont talk about fraud.. thats nothing... lets not go into your paintball theft incident. And what evil techie said was true there are certain models that suck from IBM and others that work nicely.
