Default winword.exe error

PC: IBM Notebook, X20, OS: Windows 2000
Running Office 2000

lately, after opening MSWord, I get the winword.exe error.

Looked up in Google search string "winword.exe error" and found this site.

Found a suggestion regarding checking the default printer setting.

Before checking the printer setting idea I uninstalled Office 2000, reinstalled it- still same problem.

Anyway, I had configured recently ( I seldom use the Office 2000 Suite in my Notebook- mostly I use it when I am away from the office to check emails, and to surf the net) a network printer to be my default printer. So after reading a posting regarding the default printer setting I noticed that the PC where the HP printer (the network printer I had set as my default printer for my Laptop) was not on. In effect, when I was opening the MSWord on my notebook or laptop, it was looking for that printer. After changing the default printer setting to my FAX (comes with Windows) the problem was solved.

I thought I'd share this with anyone else who may have this problem later on.

Thanks!!

I have tried to uninstall my office 2000 pro suite and reinstall and still get the same error.
I have tried to update word with the april 25th update and still get the same error.
I have tried to update my office suite to sp2 and still get the same error.
I have run norton disk doctor and regcleaner to see if there are any registry errors that it can fix but still does not work.
I have contacted Untraceable but have not recieved a reply.

All other applications within the suite work fine even when I removed their recent files also. It only seems to be word that has the problem.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you

Default winword.exe generating errors

Thanks to litoespi for his info on the above subject.

Had a Laptop with this problem and tried the usual but in the end tried the Default printer fix and it worked. The laptop was set to a printer in Australia and the laptop was in Liverpool.
