i kinda lost this project by the wayside, but it appears that if you want to use a laptop display with a pc, you need to get a pci lcd controler card. they have them at earthlcd. i cant tell you how much they cost, because i havent looked into it in a while.

if you get it workin though, let us know! and good luck!

Default uh... question

since some of the major video card companies make laptop video chipsets, would i be wrong in my assumption that you could just pull the video converter off of the laptop motherboard? i mean, if a desktop ATI card has to convert then a laptop ATI card would as well right? and like one of the other posters here, i have pulled apart an old laptop and noticed the plugin where the ribbon cable from the LCD connects.

btw - i think this is the longest running thread i've ever seen .... EVER

OK, I'm on to this project. I think I have gathered all the necessary information and am about to comence construction. I will let you all know how it goes.

However it must be said that in order to do this convertion you NEED the Wiring / Schematic diagram or a nice Digital Oscilliscope.

I'll report back soon.

Default Components

OK, well I have collected ALL the components that I need. Including a sexy 15" DELL 1600x1200 TFT Laptop Screen.

All in all the total cost of the components was approximately £35

The only difficulty I'm having is getting the correct Data Sheet for the screen but I think I've found a source for it.

This is actually more straight forward than I first thought.

So I should have it all up and running within about 1 - 2 weeks. Once I've got it all working I'll put up a website with step-by-step instructions and post the link here.

Have fun all.

Cheers,

Keukpa
