use laptop screen on a pc??

Hi all, sorry for the LONG LONG delay, but I've been in San Diego for the past 6 weeks.

Anyways,

I've managed to do what we've all been wanting to do, and it cost me under £100 (£80 to be precise) so I'm just finishing the web details and will post the URL here in a week or two.

howdiy ppl, i want to do just wat i think it was frank wanted multimedia pc and lcd look bit better than crt especialy in the car. anyways lcd is digital so cant u use the dvi on vid card cant u just hook the lcd straight to the dvi with the right wiring config mabie oh and that expencive part the inverter or wat eva isnt that in the laptop if i bought a sh*t one just cause i saw it done with a ps1 u no the one with the built in screen and they used somthin off the board and just wired it to the vga and away she went just had to config the pixels or some sh*t cause the screen is small but yeah thats y i ask bout an old laptop working same way

ok, i think the whole dvi interface has already been discussed and deemed that you cannot just wire the lcd to the dvi interface. i'm not an electrician, or claim to know why it won't work. i just want a car pc one day.

yeah, i've seen the PSONE screen thing before, its still pretty cool though, even if it is small.

Alright I have decided to stop buy and see what progress has been made in this thread, and to share what I have learned.
Ok simply put it is possible but will cost you lots of money. LCD in laptop recieve their data via a DIGITAL signal, and no you cant just wire it up to a DVI port. You must either create or buy a converter board that will take an analog signal and turn it into a full on digital signal that the LCD can interpret. Regarding the claims that there are RGB leads on the LCD... so far every claim I have come across has been a phoney. The only way you can use an LCD screen from a laptop is if you can work out a way to send a digital signal to it. You can hook up LCD monitors as they already have a controller on them (hence why you use a 15 pin d-sub connector). You can just buy a controller from some website but finding one at a decent price and quality is near impossible. It would be cheaper and easier to use an LCD monitor.

All right now i know that i am a tad late to join in on the fray but i did have just one question that i hope someone could answer.

I was thinking that if you could find out what each pin does on the LCD from the laptop you could just wire it directly to an Adapter (DB-25 or DVI, probably DVI) and plug it in. Now i realize that wont work right off but hear me out. Couldnt you get a hold of the device driver code and potentially rewrite the the device to handle the different pin config. Now i know that rewriting a display driver wouldnt be a walk in the park but i have quite a bit of free time and a huge interest in keep boards and circutry and power to a minimum so ANY beam of hope in the minimalist style is good enough for me. I know it will take time to do and is impractical but if it is plausible i would like to pursue it further. If ANYONE can help i would appreciate it.
