Jason425, I don't see why you are ashamed of yourself. Of the ones who have continued the discussion to this point, you are the only one not being racist and making all sorts of media-hyped generalizations/stereotypes.

Weatherman, while you're right that we, as a nation, have given out far more than anyone else and received little in return, with virtually no gratitude, I'm not sure that justifies our not helping. Some of the villages along the coastlines may not have even known a land existed on the otherside of the Pacific, let alone that there may have been an earthquake in that land.

I'm deeply disgusted that the conversation has turned into a debate on what inferior (as suggested) deserves a pity handout so we can happily post how generous we are while sitting among our many luxuries. I'm not sure that the high-school-dropout junkies, referred to earlier, and other homeless chose to shiver through the night under a park bench (keeping the rain off them a little bit) after they finished their dinner composed of a half eaten chicken wing found from the nearest dumpster and some soup not scraped out of a can. Likewise, I'm not sure that Asians were laughing at Californians when their earthquakes have happened. Even if donations that they'd have made would have made the slightest difference, I don't feel they have that much of an obligation to try to help when they are living in poverty themselves and struggling to live themselves. Californian losses weren't due to a lack of resources.

Think carefully.

thats kind of what im saying. i dont think its right to use them not helping us as an excuse not to help them. who cares who needed it more. if you can help you should help. like i said before, it doesnt matter who helps out who first. if everyone decides not to help just because they havent been helped yet, were never gonna get anywhere.

I will concede that the stereotypes aforementoined by myself were inappropriate.

I was referring to being ashamed of being in the company of them.. it's sad when people make it at least appear shameful to be an American... what a mess...

I could have sworn the title said "Please donate now!" not "Please debate now!"

C'mon guys. It's a good cause, and a worthy thread...don't let it go to waste.

The death toll would prolly still be under 100k if they did. Like one weather guy got fired because he knew it was going to happen but didnt want to "scare" tourists. Dont know how tsunami equate to weather since thats not a weather element but the simple fact it was their own fault so many were lost.
japan donated more than US for this disaster
