Age of Mythology killed something... video problems!

I had this problem. Everything worked fine but i tried to 'optimise' the settings of my graphics card and then got the 12MB error.

For some reason your NVidia settings have been played with. It is not DirectX. If you go to your NVidia settings --> Direct 3D settings and then click restore defaults.

This should do the trick!
If it still doesn't work then run another game such as BF1942, and then load up GTA3 again.

This is caused by netmeeting screwing something up.
Solution:
Start netmeeting
close netmeeting

it should work fine now.

a similar problem happens with my ASUSDvD player too - I think its due to netmeeting not shutting down properly.
