To all those posting here:  Let's not get bent out of shape about this.  Do we agree? Hell no.  Oh well.  Suck it up and move on.  We ain't supposed to agree.  If we all did the world would suck.  Let's just not go crazy.  It isn't our place to convince anyone of anything.  We can present facts and speak our minds.  It's not our place to change other people's minds for them.  I have some very strong opinions and so does everyone else involved.  Insults and putdowns lead to nothing fruitfull.  I need to take some of my own advice so don't tell me I already know.  Say whatever you want.  But don't Bitch when others don't agree.  If everyone thought the same way we would all be settin in front of Compaq computers thinking Window XP rules and drinking Zima 'cuz it's the in thing.  C'mon were all indivuduals.  Just let others think the way they want to and understand if someone doesn't agree with you.  Nothing personnel they just think your wrong.  It's up to you and only you to decide if your right.

ok ok...maybe i did go a bit far..i was just a lil tense about a brand new member biting heads off within days of his arrival, anyhow i can see where the cussing part can fit in for convos because sometimes u have to get you point across in an accurate, straight forward manner, but being f*** happy is going a bit far, no...? GR does have a good point there and that is mostley what this forums consists of, opinion wise, just dont push it to the point of nonsense...

I don't post here much but I do lurk occaisionally and I read the 4th of July thread and this one.
To those that spoke up in Americas defense, you did an admirable and noble job. To those who would apologize, DON'T !
Bear and Wykid are not U.S. Citizens, their countries were not attacked, or at war with the terrorist. They don't view things as you should. They did not have thousands killed in a terrorist attack.
To those members here who could have spoken up and didn't, you should have, if you can't defend your country with your fingertips at your keyboard, could you ever do so as a Soldier, Airman, Sailor or Marine ?
So you say, it wasn't my fight, or I wasn't involved, someone else can handle it, is that the right attitude ?
Isn't that the same attitude that causes abused children to fall through the cracks at the States WIC's ( Women Children Services ) ?, and the same attitude that caused Enron, Worldcom, and the Calif energy crisis ? Every step of the way, someone could have spoken up and prevented those disasters, sadly none did.
Is this your country too or do you feel others can always do the dirty work ?

I agree with what you said for the most part. I am not sure that everyone necessarily ignored this thread, or let others handle it, but may have been very busy, or may not even know enough history to defend. I, myself, haven't even been lookin at Netsmog as much lately, and I doubt any of the other staff members did either, because we have been doing a lot of work for the new site. I didn't even know of this thread or the conflict that had risen in the 4[sup]th[/sup] of July thread until someone pointed it out.

I do feel it is a shame, however, that many people don't know even basic history of our own country. Just watch Jay Walking on Leno and you'll see what I mean. I know he pulls out specific people who don't know, but still, it is pretty easy for him to find them. I mean, how can you not know the first sentence of the Pledge? I feel that this is why people don't care enough about what goes on in the country. Not enough patriotism either, except empty patriotism when it becomes a fad.

There is one point I would like to say to those against America:
Don't you realize that you wouldn't even be alive or out of oppression, let alone posting remarks on the Internet (which America created and allowed access to the rest of the world), if it weren't for this country?

My thoughts of this country...
  • This country has made its mark on the world.
  • I will stands beside this county at all costs
  • I will not take any putdowns towards this country
  • Patriotism is what this country is made of.
  • Freedom lies within this country like no other.
  • This is the best damn country in the world

This list can by all means go one for many pages, but i feel that these couple of senteces represents what we and America stands for...American Pride, United We Stand!

I hate to take the role I'm about to (devil's advocate) but this has to be said.  First I Love the US.  I am proud of the flag and have put my life on the line to defend her.  One of the reasons I Love her so much is one of the reasons that makes me so upset.  The freedom of speech.  It gives everyone the right to say as they please.  As many have done here.  And as I have been able to do myself.  Agreements are scarce and opinions are strong but under the Stars and Stripes is room for them all.  Even those that oppose her.  I will fight to the bitter end to help defend her yet one of the things she stands for the most is that even those that disagree with her can say what they have to say in peace.  Don't attack her and don't threaten her,  I'll be there with millions of other American's to defend her to the end.  But if you don't like her you can say your piece.  Just be aware we have the right to speak our mind and we'll damn sure make ourselves known (sometimes the lack of a response is only the wise man knowing the best thing to do is hold his toungue).

Well, I don't intend to hold my tongue or bite it either much when it comes to speaking up for this great country, I ditto what Soccer and vee_ees said, and as a paradox will post these very famous lines of the anti-Nazi pastor, Rev. Martin Niemoller during WW2 :

"First they came for the communists, but I was not a communist--so I said nothing. Then they came for the social democrats, but I was not a social democrat--so I said nothing. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew--so I said nothing. Then they came for me, there was no one left who could stand up for me."

Let us not ever be accused of not having spoken up. Always take that risk :
To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk rejection.
To place your dreams before the crowd is to risk ridicule.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave.
He has forfeited his freedom.
Only a person who takes risks is free.

Very nice Jinx I like that.  I wasn't asking anyone to hold their tongue I was just trying to answer the question as to why many others hadn't answered other questions in this thread.  I'll defend this great nation again if called upon 'cause quite frankly I Love it.  Perfect it is not but by knowing that we can work to make it better.  The good this country does far outways the bad that has happened.  God Bless America and God Bless us all.
