Motherboard replacement question
I will be replacing my motherboard. When i removed the heatsink and processor do i have to readd thermal paste? I've never done this like this before, in the past i replaced both at the same time....but this time i'm retaining my processor and H/S.
Thanks

if you're overclocking or care about your temps, it's not a bad idea.. if there is still a bunch there and you aren't a big temp freak, don't if you don't want to...
however, expect temps to go up a bit if you leave the same stuff on since there'll be air bubbles created by the removal

No you dont. You dont have to add anything... THe thermal paste is already in place.. IT might be a good idea to have a fresh coat of it... but your not obligated too. OC freaks like jason425 will tell you that YOU MUST.. but u dont have too.

... sometimes the paste can just "disappear"... it's better to be safe than sorry. Since you asked, it must not be that big of a deal... i'd do it anyway. If you do do it, be sure to remove the current with rubbing alcohol and then apply the new stuff with something non-lint (I use paper)

Paper does leave small amounts of fibers and other foreign materials, so I'd suggest using a well-cleaned synthetic cloth. Since synthetic cloths don't pick stuff up well, make sure you go over the surface a few times with the cloth and alcohol after it appears completely clean.

I suggest using a straight razor to smooth out any paste. Also I second Jason425 said with using rubbing alcohol to clean off the old paste.

lens cloth maybe? it works on fiber optics, oughta work lint free on a chip.
