What to Buy After X-Mas(With All of Your New Loot)

Article written by Wes Harbaugh on 12/26/2004

Dell 2001FP Gaming LCD Monitor ($799)

This monitor has been ranked the number one monitor for gaming for well over a year now. It is the best, per se, "bang for buck". It goes for a steep price of $799 but anyone who is familiar with Dell Computers, knows that Dell has sales just about every week. At one point this monitor was only $599 after a combination of rebates and discounts. The reason this monitor is so great is because it has two major things that attract gamers to it. One, it's 16 millisecond response time, two its size. The faster a monitor responds to a computer input the better for games, if the response time is too high the game may ghost or get out of sync a little bit, which gamers hate. Overall, this monitor is the perfect touch to a gaming set up. This monitor is available from Dell for $799. UPDATE: Overstock is having a crazy fire-sale and they are letting this monitor go for only $499, get one before they are gone!

Apple 30" Cinema LCD Screen ($3,299)

The Apple cinema screen is one of the most wanted, but due to its price it is often not an option for most consumers. Similar to the 2001fp it also has a 16 millisecond second response time, hence it is also made for gaming and other high end video applications. On a screen this size, that speed is amazing.

The great part is that this product isn't just for Apple computers, it is usable on PC. If you plan on buying one of these bad-boys, you will a high end graphics card that supports DVI, for example the Nvida Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL, which you can pick up at Newegg for $285. The Apple Cinema screens are exceptional quality and every person who wants quality monitors for a reasonable price should consider this mammoth. This is another definite must-have if you work with digital imaging or are a heavy gamer. This monitor can be picked up for a cool $3,199 online

Creative Gigaworks S750($499)

Anyone who watches movies or plays games on his computer knows that being able to hear the content of the program is important. Even better being able to have a feeling of self immersion inside a game is incredible. You feel like you are in the first person shooter. You can hear if things are behind you or to your left or right. While other speaker configurations can do that the more speakers...the more output in different directions. The S750 features a wooden sub woofer on the inside, EAX and THX sound quality, and an adjustment knob that controls most aspects of this speaker set. The S750 can be purchased as low as $415 at Ecost.
