Siggraph 2003: San Diego

Article by Michael Tran and Harry Lam
July 27-31, 2003

Introduction:

With much of the hype gone from previous years, this year's Siggraph differed from the others.  Although the large computer companies still dominated the exhibition floor, the overall focus of the conference has changed significantly.  The huge glamorous product announcements of before were nowhere to be seen, replaced by more "practical" exhibits and the usual education on computer graphics techniques.

Although the major players in the computer graphics industry were there and nearly all of them had something to say or something to prove, the mass market appeal of Siggraph has subsided and replaced by a more sensible emphasis on the workstation market.
