Fujitsu SAS Drives and Highpoint RocketRAID 2640X4 Testing in Linux

HighPoint

HighPoint

Introduction

Previously, I reviewed the HighPoint RocketRAID 2640X4 PCI-Express x4 SAS RAID Controller primarily for the Windows User. This review will focus on the suitability of this product for deployment in a variety of Linux Server roles. The aspects of the controller that I plan to test are:

  • Drivers
  • Configurations
  • Performance

HighPoint is making a determined effort to break into the expanding market for all levels of RAID servers. The 2000 and 3000 series of RAID controllers offer advanced features, high reliability and performance at a relatively low price point. In my previous review, I analyzed the performance of the RocketRAID 2640X4 in a RAID0 configuration for pure performance purposes. This review will shift focus on the more reliable RAID5 configuration. For the sake of completeness, I have duplicated some of the key specifications from my previous article below.

Key Specifications

From my previous article, here are some key specifications and some updated URLs for user manuals for the HighPoint RocketRAID 2640X4 PCI-Express x4 SAS RAID Controller:
