Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 6Y200M0 200GB SATA

Review by Matthew Homan on 6/06/04

Maxtor has designed a very nice product. The drive is quite and doesn't put out a lot of heat. The speeds of data transfer are matched in performance to two ATA drives in a Stripe. This leaves the comsumer wondering, why not? Well, if your putting together a system based purely on performance, then this drive alone or even teamed with another and configured in a stripe (not tested), you should get noticeable performance. Though with all drive makers focusing on SATA drives the good ole IDE drive prices are going to be dropping. So if it is storage space and not necessary performance, then a highend IDE that has dropped in price so much that it is cheaper the SATA, then going with the IDE would be the choice.

At the time of this writing the Maxtor 200 GB is going for $135.36 from Dell.com and $139.99 from our friends over at Tiger Direct.
